There are many types of belly fat, which will affect you in a number of ways. These various types of belly fat are:
1: Stomach Fat. This is the worst type of belly fat you can have. A saggy stomach is frequently an indicator of an unhealthy digestive system and sometimes causes the abdomen to sag looking as if you're suffering from excess weight. The cause of stomach fat is often due to a sedentary lifestyle, poor diet and eating the wrong types of foods. To avoid this, make sure you're getting plenty of exercise and eat more healthily.
2: Subcutaneous Fat. Also known as "belly fat" or simply "fat", subcutaneous fat is just underneath your skin. It's located directly under your belly button and is therefore quite difficult to get rid of. There are various types of subcutaneous fat but they are all stored differently. You can lose some of your subcutaneous fat through diet, but ultimately it will have to be replaced. So, to do that you should start by getting a good workout regime and performing regular cardiovascular exercises.
Once you get rid of some of your subcutaneous fat, you can then work on getting rid of your visceral fat (the kind which resides directly under your organs). To do that you need to perform high intensity cardio training in addition to building muscle mass and burning off the excess calories you consume. A great workout to target your visceral fat is one performed in a muffin top position called the "cubidoid crunch".
The last category of subcutaneous belly fat is called "glymphatic" excess belly fat. This type of fat is not fat at all, but rather a type of thick, sticky liquid. It is often produced as a result of excess body fat, poor diet, high cholesterol levels and also as a result of high blood pressure. While this type of fat is not as challenging to get rid of as the other two it does carry a lot of health risks. In particular it is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and strokes.
So which of these best to target? If you want to lose fat, exercise! Even if you only have a small amount of excess belly fat, even a few minutes of exercise every day is still going to help. However, if you want to lose fat for the better overall health of your body you should combine your weight loss efforts with a comprehensive fitness program that takes all of the fat-related challenges into account. This type of fitness program is ideally going to include strength training, cardiovascular training and a proper diet.
For those who have a lot of excess weight to lose, a change in lifestyle and lower consumption of processed foods and sugary treats might be sufficient. For those with a relatively small tummy bulge, increasing your daily physical activity (diet and exercise included) is the way to go. A good place to start is by adding up the calories you consume for a week. Then compare that to the calories you burn in a typical physical activity and see if any of the difference is "out of sight, out of mind". It's very likely that your increase in calories will be enough to start seeing a difference in your body mass index and your general health. Remember, that all those processed foods probably contain a whole bunch of chemicals that are destroying your hormones and suppressing your immune system and so on.
Lowering stress can also be a good way of reducing abdominal fat, but only if your stress levels are controlled or kept under control. Reducing stress by learning some relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga is a good first step. But learning the right foods to eat when you're under stress is an even better one. Eat lots of foods rich in raw fruits and vegetables (preferably unprocessed) and lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats - and you will not only feel better, but you'll have much lower cortisol levels and lower chances of developing any health problems.
